| Cheers lads, ohh the dreaded castor angle!! I spent many late nights scratching my head about this, looking in books searching forums and so on but in the end the only way to go about it was to get stuck in and do it,to be honest it was a calculated guess. I know a bit about castor angle and what degree it should be but actually getting it from paper to the motor without the right tools is impossible. So what I did was take lots of pics and measurements from the donor vehicle and a few 90's. I worked out that The spring seats were about level when on The disco,so with the axle on the bench and the spring seats level the top bolt for the swivel was right at the top of the axle, this was how I would line things up as the seats for the coils were cut off to enable me to weld the leaf spring ones on,problem was when the axle was on the series the track rod needed to be where the springs were!!! So all I did was lift the axle up with 1 inch spacers alowing me to twist the axle to"roughly" the right position and then weld the seats on.the steering is now ten times better than before,it self centers dosn't wander all over the place and drives straight plus I've got better lock now.I know this isn't the perfect way to do this but I did it on my drive with a bit of common sense a set of spanners a welder and a big hammer! Oh and a lot of cursing!!!! the end result is that it works a treat | |
