| As a few of you are already aware myself and a few of the old members of 4x4 Wales have broke away and set up our own group Overland Logistical Support. We are in talks with several user bodies regarding 4x4 support over the winter period and as and when required which we need volunteers to cover. There will be fuel allowance and callout/standby allowance plus food allowance if out over certain amount of time. Please have a look at our website www.overlandlogisticalsupport.co.uk for more info on our group and if you want to know more pm me or send me a email through Overland website. | |

| Peter at the moment we are taking names and numbers of competant 4x4 drivers which is what most of you are for potential callout by user agency Its not training as such it is making sure people are capable at driving on various terrain training if required will be done at a later date and in a local area. If you remember early this year several hospitals contacted 4x4 forums for help which quite a lot of us went and helped out we want to build teams and give these organisations a reliable service in there time of need. | |

apart from being to drive your vehicles in a variety of difficult weather and ground conditions I think the most important thing is to have the vehicle in a safe and ready condition, making sure everything works, lights, brakes, 4 wheel drive, that all the oils are topped up, adequate fuel in tank, the tyres are correctly inflated and are not damaged, any of those little jobs you have meant to get round to doing, are done. It' a good idea to put together (before it's needed) a bag containig any recovery gear you think you will need, some spare fluids, a torch, tools, water proofs, possibly even a sleeping bag. and wash that flask out that's sitting at the back of the cupboard, ready to fill before you do go out. mobile phone fully charged, CB if you have one (once a channel is agreed) sat nav or map. There is one other thing to bear in mind at this time of the year, and that is the drink driving campagne, I got pulled the other morning for a random breath test, I hadn't had a drink the night before but I had the night before that and I may well have still been aver the limit, just a thought.

hey pit you can also help by volunteering to man the control point, co-ordinating those who are in the position to go out. 500 land rovers and no-one to tell them where to go is no good to anyone.

| Went out last night from 4.30 to 9.30, ferrying patients and staff to and from the Heath in Cardiff. Bagpuss and Jockers where out too. I think they were doing early runs this morning. All the people involved where really grateful, enjoyed myself. More vounteers would be good. There's always plenty to do, especially patient transport because the ambulances can't get round in this weather to well. If your free, especially in the day, give Jim a call please. | |
