bird sanctuary/ crow help

I know this is a long shot but was wondering if anyone can in-put some bright ideas

For my degree final year dissertation I want to study the behaviour and intelligence of corvids.....crows/ jackdaws/ magpies etc.

I need to find either someone who has one as a pet or a bird sanctuary which has some.

Needs to be in the south wales area preferably within an hour ish of caerphilly/ cardiff.

I've exhausted everywhere I can think of and what google suggests but, having not lived in the area long, wonder if I'm missing anywhere as I cant seem to find a single sanctuary!!!???

Any ideas really really appreciated!!! Cheers people

give some local vets a ring, most of them have leaflets on sanctuaries or rescue places so might be able to provide a phone number.

thats a very good idea actually, thanks! Didn't think about going about it that way. Seem to have made hundreds of phone calls in the last 2 days and got no where! Cheers, will try a few vets tomorrow

Duno, google seems to say theres nothing in south wales but there must be something!!!!
Only been to barry once so wouldnt have a clue any idea where abouts or anything?? Might just have to aimlessly drive around and see what I can find! Lol

av a word with alf he made a film about em, lol, failing that come on up to llanederyn,theres a large wooded area by pentwyn lake, they roost in the trees at night and buzz around the local estates during the day and its only a stones throw away from roath you could av a chat to my ma she,s like the bird woman off bedknobs and broomsticks when it comes to crows n magpies if your lucky you might even catch a glimpse of some jays as we got some of them as well .

Unfortunately I really need captive birds as my diss will require me to do controlled experiments where I can continuously monitor and tell the difference between individuals (impossible in the wild where there is so many). However, if I cant find anywhere and have to go to plan b I may have to end up using wild birds and will definately give your ma a call hahaha!

And I'm sure pitbull will be on shortly to give his barry wisdom

All them birds you just named are vermin . I no a lot about them cos i shoot the fucker all the time . If you like i can take you out shootin this weekend

im sure i could catch a couple for you theres plenty of em round here normally doin a riverdance on the roof at stupid o clock in the morning

peter: think I'll pass ta. Vermin or not, they are said to be extremely intelligent and the best animal for me to study. Do me a favour though? If some nutter comes and takes any semi dead ones off you to take them to a sanctuary.....ask him which one?

the barry 1 is a hawking centre now .. dunno if they got caged crows there but htere's loads of the fookers flying round lol .. some of the crow family can talk .. had a jackdaw swearing at me .. funny as fook to hear em .. youtube talking magpie / jackdaw / crow .. you passed that hawking centre when we went bridgend greenlaning emm it.s in the 5 mile lane .. where foxy drove on an you followed me .. going to tesco member ? lol

Haha was speaking to a guy yesterday who said his jackdaw learnt to say "food you twat" when it was hungry hahaha! Apparently he didnt teach it but reckons his grandson might have!

This time of the year birds are aggressive cos its nesting time and that got chicks .

A miner bird can talk most pepol think that thay are a crow /jackdoor/rook ravon

jackdaws were after my blue tits in my garden they laid eggs in my bluetit box .. i'm a dad of 5 lol 1 didnt hatch

How big does the enclosure need to be, we've got a larson trap up the farm for crows/ rooks etc its about 1meter x 1meter x 2 meters.

Thanks hawkins but would have to be a full on avairy of about 10foot square Thanks for the idea and offer though!

Pete its not for sale, I use it, but emma could study what's in it that's all. If your really pushed I'm sure itd be ok to build yourself a little aviary in one of the woods on the farm but itd be a lot easier to find somewhere that's already got one.

Cheers hawkins, will definately try and find somewhere thats already got one. At the mo it's looking like I'll have to go back to Berksire for a few weeks (just duno what I'm gona do with the horse yet!!) but thanks very much for the offer
