| sounds like it maybe a silly question but are you gonna reinforce that or do you think that the single bar welded is strong enough?
dunno, seems like a lot of force (even tho its just damping) to be putting through one side of a 1x1.5 steel bar like that, forces on the weld will be huge given the position of the actual shock..

| The steel I used is out of a 40 foot hgv trailer,it's the bar that you slot in to stop the load moving, anything up to 23 tonne so should be up to the job. As for the top weld I drilled the bar right through and the top sleeve is the original one that I cut out of the series chassis, welded at both sides and the bolt is the original one designed for the series,so fingers crossed it should work but like any mod it's trail and error. This is the top mount The next radyr pay n play will be the ultimate testrun | |

| yeah that is true..
think i would be tempted to have a reinforcing strut at 45degrees on the opposite side of the shock to stop it twisting and shearing the welds off.. (personally)
but, its not gonna be under *that* much pressure to be honest unless you changed the rate of the damping with thicker oil or something.. so you will probably have no problems with it as the majority of the forces will be discipated through the leafsprings on eitehr side..
if it can stand up to radyr, then should be fine..

| As a general rule with mild steel you should be able to hang a ton off an inch of good weld and as you say the box is more than strong enough, i dont see it needing any reinforcement. Wouldn't do any harm though. | |

| i dunno, guess i would just want safe rather than sorry lol
Shearing forces could easily turn it off, steels strength is tensile rather than torsional, hence my worry..
i guess tho, like i said, the damping wont put too much force through that strut
i driven with no shocks before and its not nice lol. felt like a cadilac i was seasick after lol
