Gap Road Sun Midnight[RUN BY ROB], and Sun 01 Mar[STILL ON!]

Gonna be running two trips on the Gap road first minute it opens on Saturday 28th Feb 2009 at Midnight, meeting in Merthyr at around 11ish, then again on sunday again at 11ish this time am, to see the scenery. Excact meeting place in Merthyr TBA closer to date, but will be somewhere where there is a phone signal.

Will hopefully be drive and return via the same route depending on conditions, starting from Merthyr side to Brecon then reversing the route, with time for Coffee and food at the Brecon side.

I personally went up a a fortnight ago to the Merthyr side start point to check the signage at the begining of the lane and at present it is still showing limited opening times so March is legally open unless anything changes between now and then, again I will check the day before to ensure nothing has changed.

Again in the interests of time keeping and not overloading the lane numbers will be limted to 6 vechicles.

dont get why u only haveing 6 jeeps going then driveing it twice and doing it that time ov nite might give us a bad name with local people i dont think it looks good thats all but thats my 2pence

theres loadsa people do it that time baz, im mean theres a big group of people meeting up there, 5 or 6 is a good number

its been done at night every year by many different groups including enduro bikers , greenlane groups ,the SWPOC club etc ..

ps ..since when did u get all considerate towards greenlane usage ?

just cozz other groups do it dont mean we have 2 and yes iv made mastakes in past havent we all iv all so done my bit with repairs and keeping my local lanes open not bing funny but if i lived in a farm wear a lane gos past my house i wouldnt like 4x4s going past at midnite we all need 2 take care with lanes or thay will b lost 4 good

Can I put 1 vehicle down for both runs with you guys???

Added, only one space left for the sunday, and I would have to say no to other vehicles tagging along above the 6 vehicle limit, with this being the first weekend of the year Gap is open I would expect it to be very busy there.

Btw, what vehicle are you intending to do this trip with?

Coming in a VW Syncro 16.

Ill do the day one, possibly the night, but defo the day, so put me down.

Fook cancel the day one just remembered its my daughters birthday, will hopefully do the night drive out though...could do with testing out my new spotties..

Also for this one, I'm currently looking at adding a few more lanes on, spotted some routes on memorymap just need to get them checked, so was thinking the sat trip could start earlier to include them, getting to gap for midnight, and the sunday trip could include them after the Gap. These would be optional keeping the same meeting times for the Gap run.

Not to undermine your organisational skills and you have probably already checked if it is driveable but was told over the weekend that the Gap was "off limits" until further notice even though the TRO states that it is open in March and September/October.

Anyone heard about this???

Heard nothing about that no. At the last check the TRO was only inforce on the dates specified. Out of curiosity who is saying Gap is Offlimits?

I've been looking at this, and as far as the legal standpoint is they can say its off limits as much as they want, unless they have signage in place then the TRO is not valid.

This applies to perminant TRO's as well as Temporary ones lasting a maxiumum of 6 months. So unless the signage is replaced to show a perminant year long TRO, they have no legal standing to say a clearly signed and open lane is "off-limits".

By virtue of regulation 16 of the regulations and s64 Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, National Park Authorities are required to install and maintain sufficient traffic signs to bring the TRO to the attention of users.

i think that it will be a buisy night up there as there are a minimum of four other clubs doing it on the same night ,and a total of 50+ vehicles !!

Remeber Gap will be open all the way through March. So there will be plenty of other trips up there.

yeah mate deffo gonna be more than the runs i'm doing. my tx box is looking on its ass, so saving it for the gap runs now, but even if its dead after that i'll jump in with somoene to run further trips.
